My hope is that this newsletter helps us stay connected, keeps you informed about upcoming events, shares strategy tips, reviews important rules, and celebrates the wonderful community we are building together.

Whether you take classes, join guided play, attend open play, participate in Social Club events, or simply follow along on our Mahjong journey, I am so grateful you are here.

Thank you for bringing your enthusiasm, patience, laughter, and kindness to our tables. Because of you, Mahjong at Deena's has become so much more than a place to learn a game. It is a place to build friendships, gain confidence, challenge ourselves, and create meaningful connections.

RULES & STRATEGY CORNER

RULE REMINDER: JOKERS

Jokers may NEVER be used for:

• Singles

• Pairs

• Groups of singles

NEVER, not even for Mahjong!
If your hand requires a single tile or a pair,
it must be the actual tile, not a joker.

ADVANCED STRATEGY TIP:
DON’T GIVE AWAY INFORMATION

Pay attention to where you place your drawn tile.

Many experienced players place every tile they pick in the same spot on their rack each time they draw.
After discarding, they then reorganize their rack if needed.

Why?

If you immediately place a drawn tile into a specific area of your rack, observant opponents may gain clues about the hand you're building.

Another helpful habit: before your turn, have a likely discard in mind. This keeps the game moving and prevents information from being revealed while deciding what to throw.

The less information you give away, the more difficult it is for others to read your hand!
